Expert Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical Care
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery requires extensive, specialized hospital-based training beyond dental school. As Board Certified surgeons, Dr. Byron Black and Dr. William Black provide comprehensive care for the mouth, teeth, and facial structures. Our practice specializes in a full scope of oral surgery, including dental implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, and corrective jaw surgery. We also offer advanced bone grafting techniques to rebuild structural integrity with minimal surgical intervention, ensuring a faster recovery and optimal patient comfort. Our surgeons are also highly experienced in diagnosing and treating facial pain, trauma, and facial fractures.
We prioritize your safety and comfort through expert sedation dentistry. Our office is fully equipped for safe intravenous (IV) sedation and outpatient general anesthesia, with continuous, professional patient monitoring throughout every surgical procedure.
Our Dedicated Surgical & Clinical Staff
The clinical team at Mountaineer Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons is comprised of experienced surgical assistants and Registered Nurses (RNs) dedicated to exceptional patient care. Our team is specifically trained to assist in complex surgical procedures and the administration of anesthesia. Our entire staff maintains advanced certifications in CPR, ACLS, and PALS, and our administrative personnel are experts in navigating complex health and insurance policies to ensure a seamless experience for every patient.

Dr. Byron H. Black, DDS
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
Bryon Black, DDS completed his Dental Degree and Oral Surgery Residency at WVU School of Dentistry in 1974. Dr. Black has been treating patients in Charleston, WV and surrounding areas for 40 years and is a Board Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.
Dr. Black is a Fellow of the American Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a Diplomate of the American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, as well as an Associate Clinical Professor at WVU. His professional affiliations include the American Dental Association, the WV Dental Association, the WV Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, the Kanawha Valley Dental Association, and the Southeastern Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
In the fall of 2014, Dr. Black was appointed to the WV Board of Dentistry and also serves on the WV Board of Dentistry Anesthesia Committee.
Dr. Black and his wife, Julia, have three adult children, Kristen, Will and Byron Patrick. He is a resident of Jackson County and an avid WVU fan and supporter.
